The Writer's Voice Entry

As part of the process to move forward with my newest project, I’ve entered a couple contests. One contest, The Writer’s Voice, randomly selected 150 participants who will have the chance to receive feedback and guidance on both queries and the first 250 words of a manuscript from some wonderful coaches. I have been selected to participate and am thoroughly thrilled at the opportunity. This is my first time dabbling in a contest like this, so I’m a little nervous; however, I know I’ll be in good hands.

Okay. The contest is over so I'm removing the details of my entry. Hopefully,  we'll all get to read the first page in print one day. Congrats to all the fine folks who moved on and received requests. There were some great entries.

    1. Thanks. I'm hoping it's a story that will make people smile, even though it is about a zombie.

  4. I like it and eagerly await the rest. Like the somewhat humerous spin to a 'gruesome' problem. :)

  5. I almost want to say I like it and eagerly await the rest. :) Who can figure out every blog's posting-ways?

Seriously, I thought this was cute and promising. I like the online-dating aspect of it. Very old-world/new-world with the zombie. Good luck with this in the contest!

    1. Thanks, Nikki and thanks for stopping by. This book was born from a strange, crazy idea that somehow manifested into a story. We'll see what happens.

    1. Ryan definitely has everything against him, including perception. We'll see what happens. Thanks, Annette.

  8. Nice voice--you pulled me in right away! The premise in interesting, too. I like that there's some semblance of normality after the zombies. :) Good luck with the contest, and happy writing!

  9. "It's all going to end one day. People will stop screaming when they see my face." Great humor from the opening lines. Good luck, Jamie!

  10. Oh, this wasn't going where I thought it was at all. I read the query and was thinking tragic, sad love story; then I read the opening, and it was funny! A unique twist on a zombie story. Sounds like a winner. Good luck!

  12. This seems like a very different take on zombies. I'm curious as to why congress and lawyers and all that would fight so hard to get the zombies accepted into school - wouldn't they just infect more people? I don't normally like zombie books at all, but I want to see what makes these zombies different!

I love the online dating twist too. It's becoming more and more a part of our society and I think that its great its starting to bleed into people's books now too!

  13. I LOVE that title! Your first 250 would keep me reading. While I do enjoy zombie books, I wouldn't just read this for the zombie angle. Your writing is superb. Good luck!!

  14. I was curious who filed the lawsuits on his behalf, if his family all died? And is he the only one "mainstreamed"? Sounds a lot like Warm Bodies, which is zombietastic!

  15. That twist in your query! Best first paragraph ever, holy wow! And that is some amazing voice in your 250. Luck to you--hope this goes far.

  16. Let me just send a giant THANK YOU to everyone. It's been flattering to read such kind words. I haven't made it to many of the blogs yet, but I've read some fantastic entries so far. You all deserve a ton of praise for your writing and your great ideas. I'll get around to all of you this week and add what I can to your comments. Thank you again.

  17. Oh, I'm a little sad you removed your query. I was just taking another look at Cupid's site, and you had the "tip top honorable mention" which sounds like she thought quite a lot of your entry.

    Good luck in the future.

    1. Hi, Sarah. Sorry. I'm weird about leaving writing samples and the query online for too long. I will tell you that the query earned a couple requests, so it obviously worked. Thanks for stopping by.
