I don’t like to get comfortable for too long. I stare at a room
and imagine what I could change to make it…different. There’s no rhyme or
reason, save the singular goal of changing things around. It drives my wife
nuts and it helps me to keep a fresh perspective on things.
I’m feeling that way now about this blog. It needs changes.
Nothing subtle, no that wouldn’t do. Something drastic. A name change?
Here’s the thing: When I started writing novels I had one
type of story in mind. When I was ready to venture into the world of social
media, that story dominated everything I was involved with. A six book series
about a young faerie and her quest to overcome the tragedy of her choices. The
blog reflected that.
Now there’s a knot in the rope. I wrote this other book,
this secret book that has nothing to do with anything I’ve talked about on this
blog before. I want the blog to reflect what I’ve written, but also what I’m
writing. Does that make sense? It needs to say me. Right now, it doesn’t. So I’m
gonna make a change and I’m telling you this because I want you to convince me
not to.
Crap, you're wanting me to tell you not to? Blast. I think it'd be healthy and fun for you to take on a new project--though I think your blog is lovely, sometimes change is good for us! Especially if it challenges us creatively! (Go for it! Go for it!)

Thanks, Morgan!
ReplyDeleteI did it. I made the changes. It wasn't such a large overhaul after all. :)
ReplyDeleteJamie, go for the change! Ok, I'm totally telling you the exact opposite of what you asked us not to do. I have changed up my blog a handful of times and it worked out well. I think I've finally found a look that suits me. Again, I say go for it! Change is good. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Julia. I hope people like it. I'm kind of reinventing myself here so it's all an experiment. :)
DeleteGo for it! I feel like mine is in need of a change too--and I'm like you, I want my blog to reflect what I write! At the time I was doing a chick-lit novel, so mine's kinda pink and girly (which I love), but now the book I'm working on is a LOT darker--a YA horror, lol--so I've been debating the same thing you are now, to change or not to change!
ReplyDeleteYep, change is good, but it's hard to match the mood of the moment. Hopefully readers don't come by expecting one style, only to be disappointed. That's the struggle I have. Different genres attract different readers. Good luck with your changes, Cortney.
